Description: This course is the first-year intensive study of human biochemistry. The course will focus on intermediary metabolism and structures of key intermediates and enzymes important in human disease. The four-week course is divided into four topic groups: lipids, amino acids, carbohydrates and nucleic acids. The importance of each of these areas is underscored with examples from diseases and clinical correlations. The goal of the course is to provide a basic understanding of human intermediary metabolism related to disease and therapeutic impact.
